Introduction by Alex Schady,

& Allegra Baggio Corradi

Central Saint Martins

Shibboleth announces the launch of One-Thing-After-Another, a visual reader of post-war British history by Central Saint Martins’ Professor of Research Mick Finch on 28 October 2024. Drawing from an archive of 3000 images, the volume reshuffles the visual material contained in The Book of Knowledge, an eight-volume encyclopedia from Fifties Britain, into a self-reflecting cinematographic sequence suggesting that editing images of reality means editing reality itself.
The presentation will take the form of a lecture by Mick Finch and Adrian Rifkin on the book and by Allegra Baggio Corradi on social publishing that will question the responsibilities of the artist in relation to audiences and the environment with the aim of fostering interventions in the practice of everyday life. The event will be hosted by the Art Programme at Central Saint Martins who have a long history of exploring collective making with their students and external organizations, charities and community groups.
Following the presentation, a social publishing book market will take place in the Faculty’s foyer presenting a selection of printed matter emerging from socially-engaged practices, which the Art Programme has acquired for its Library with the kind support of Giulia Zorzi from Milan-based bookshop Micamera.
For further info on the book’s activations, please subscribe to the publisher’s newsletter.

About Shibboleth
Shibboleth is a social publishing non-profit based in Milan, Italy that provides professional and educational opportunities for people who make an unconventional use of language for cognitive or socio-political reasons. Its catalogue comprises visual encyclopedias, pictionaries, visual translations of novels and visual proverb calendars. Its social projects derive from a long-term research on the possibility for images to replace text in a universal system of communication. The projects for the page are a reflection of the projects for the people.
